Help us meet our match: www.iowabicyclecoalition.org/match.

In one of the vibrant downtown areas in Iowa, there is a century-old post office, now the home of Bike Tech, a 24-year-old Cedar Falls bicycle retailer. Bike Tech has been in its current location for five years and owned by Brent Johnson for the last fourteen years. Along with their home in an iconic Iowa location, they are also one of the elite bike shops on RAGBRAI.

Bike Tech has a long history of supporting local and statewide advocacy work and is supporting the Iowa Bicycle Coalition as one of our top tier retailers for the 2019 Retailer Challenge Match. Bike Tech helps support local paved and dirt trails in the Cedar Falls area, was a founding member of Cedar Valley Association for Soft Trails (CVAST), and hosts numerous events, including the Iowa Games Fat Bike race.

We caught up with Brent to hear his thoughts on the bike business, advocacy, and more. When we asked Brent why Bike Tech supports the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, his response was:

“The Iowa Bicycle Coalition is the expert and advocate making cycling better, and safer, for riders of all abilities.”

This dovetails with his comments about the best thing about being in the bicycle business which is that, “Bikes are one of the few lifelong life skills any of us will ever know. Bikes can make positive health impacts for users regardless of age, ability, or income.”

Brent walks the walk (or rides the ride) by supporting initiatives and activities that get youth on bikes in many different scopes.

Bike Tech is uniquely positioned near the paved trail system in Cedar Falls, and minutes from local dirt and gravel routes, and near lots of great food and drink options in Cedar Falls. It’s a great place to start or end any type of bike ride! (And they’ve added more parking)!

They have an inspiring dream for Iowa bicycling, and that’s to have every Iowa citizen experience a bicycle ride at least twice a year. And for each citizen to have a bike to call their own. That’s over 3 million people a year riding bikes in Iowa!

Brent and Bike Tech, we appreciate your support of Iowa bicycling and the Iowa Bicycle Coalition. We’re with you in this vision to make Iowa bicycling safe, enjoyable, and accessible for all.
