Charron MG_4373The thoughts and prayers of the ‪#‎RAGBRAI‬ Nation are with the family of Chris Charron. Chris had a huge heart and always thought of ways to help others.

Chris was the driving force behind the RAGBRAI memorial benefit fundraiser for “Team Escape from New York” rider and FDNY battalion chief John Moran who we lost 9/11 at the World Trade Center. “We’re just some big lugs in Iowa who want to do something to help,” Charron said. Over $50,000 was raised that night for the Moran family trust. Chris also carried the massive American Flag on his bike during RAGBRAI XLII to promote Freedom Rocks throughout Iowa and remember those that we have lost in battle.

Chris was also the brains behind Virtual RAGBRAI and was responsible for bringing RAGBRAI into the digital age by working to develop the early RAGBRAI websites while an employee, many years ago, at the Des Moines Register.

We will post more information about services and memorial funds for Chris when they become available.

Chris loved to ride and his last day was spent enjoying riding through the battlefields at Gettysburg National Park while visiting his family in Pennsylvania. We will all miss Chris and will hold his family in our thoughts and prayers. Godspeed Chris!
