Want to know what each of the major Quad-City communities has in store for the enhancement of bicycle transportation in the foreseeable future?
Mayors or other representatives from Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, Moline and East Moline will share their plans during a forum scheduled Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Western Illinois University-Quad-Cities riverfront campus, 3300 River Drive, Moline.
The forum, titled “Quad-Cities Bicycling for the Future,” is sponsored by the League of Illinois Bicyclists and the Iowa Bicycle Coalition.
Requested topics for the towns include the status of city bicycle plans, any new on-road or off-road bikeway improvements, how bicycles will be accommodated in upcoming road projects and education efforts.
In addition, a panel consisting of various bicycle-related groups will discuss current initiatives. The groups include Bicycle Friendly Quad-Cities, the Bi-State Regional Planning Commission, Friends of Off Road Cycling, the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, LIB, the Quad-Cities Bicycle Club, the Quad-Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau, Quad-Cities Transit and River Action Inc.
The forum will be 6:30-8:30 p.m., with snacks and a social hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. in rooms 103-104.
Good attendance by bicyclists will help deliver the message that making the Quad Cities more bike-friendly is important.  Please attend and bring a few cycling friends!
