Tri-State Trails Tour VIII – Ride in 3 states in one day!
Our May 19, 2012 ride returns to the Long Lines Family Rec Center (next to Tyson Events Center) for the start of the ride. After a hearty pancake breakfast, riders have the opportunity to ride in all three states in one day. This is a non-competitive, family oriented ride that welcomes riders of all skill levels.
For more information call 712-233-3240 or see www.siouxlandtrails.org
All routes are flat and mostly on recreational trails. Riders may select ANY or ALL of the following:
6 MILES: A quick out and back on the Perry Creek Trail, Sioux City’s newest and most scenic trail. Only one street to cross!
15 MILES: Take the trail-width sidewalk from the riverfront over the Veterans Memorial Bridge to the nationally-recognized Bicycle Friendly Community of South Sioux City, Nebraska. Follow the All -American or Al Bengtson Trail to Crystal Cove Park and back. Be sure to take advantage of the free refreshment stop in the park! You might also want to bring a Frisbee and try out the disc golf course.
Feel like a few more miles? Add 5 more miles with a round trip (still all on trail) to Dakota City and back and/or 2 more miles by trying out the Floyd Underlook Trail.
25 MILES: Check out the reconstructed Riverfront Trail by cycling to Riverside Park. From there, follow the signs to take low-traffic city streets across the bridge to North Sioux City, South Dakota, where you can access their trail system to travel to Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve. A free refreshment stop awaits you at the shelter house at Adams! You can add a few more miles on the trails in the Preserve (just how many depends on flood cleanup) before heading back to the Long Lines Family Rec Center.
60+ MILES: Ride all three of the above routes, plus venture from Adams Nature Preserve onto the quiet blacktops of southeastern South Dakota past Wynstone, to Grasshopper Corner, and on to Jefferson (or further) and back to North Sioux City. Then retrace your route back to the Long Lines Family Rec Center. Be sure to congratulate yourself for riding in three states all in one day. How cool is that?!
SAG service is provided. Riders will be given cell numbers to call. Should construction delay the reopening of the Riverfront Trail, we’ll provide a city street option to North Sioux City for experienced riders who don’t mind traffic and a few hills.
Your ride registration helps support Siouxland Trails Foundation in its efforts to improve and promote local trails.
