The Great BiCYCLE ReCYCLE is set to open February 7 at the Phelps Youth Pavilion, located in the Waterloo Center for the Arts. This new exhibit was planned in cooperation with the Cedar Valley Bicycle Collective and will feature works on display created by three local artists – Larry Lightbody, Zachary Schnock and Amanda Kronelage, using recycled bicycle parts. In addition to presenting bicycle saftey and trail information, kids will have hands-on opportunities to learn about “going green” and making eco-friendly choices. They will explore the “Blue Zones” Initiative and be encouraged to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle.
Through hands-on learning and play, The Great BiCYCLE ReCYCLE teaches kids to Reduce, Repair, Reuse, Recycle, Reinvent, Rediscover, Rethink, Recreate, Remember and Reimagine. The exhibit features a bike activity to teach kids how to reduce power usage, a kid-friendly workbench and hand tools for repairing items, a sorting table all about recycling, bicycle and trail safety videos, a music station where kids can make sounds created by bicycle parts, an indoor bicycle track for kids, and more!
The Phelps Youth Pavilion is a place where Art launches a world of wonder, discovery & learning! In addition to the featured exhibit, this children’s museum is filled with creative, hands-on experiences, from simple drawing and painting projects to magical high-tech adventures. With over 40 interactive exhibits, learning about art and culture has never been so much fun! Daily admission is free for members and $5/person for non-members. The Youth Pavilion is open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm and Sunday 1:00-5:00pm. Admission to the Pavilion includes same-day admission to the Phelps FunSpace in College Square Mall. The FunSpace is open Friday 5:00- 9:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm, and Sunday 1:00-5:00pm.
