***SAMPLE LETTER BELOW***
On behalf of the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, we want to thank Senator Ken Rozenboom for working on the Senate Transportation subcommittee and as the floor manager for the bills adding distracted driving to driver’s education (HF380) and hands-free driving (SF330), as well as being on the Senate Transportation subcommittee for the bill improving the definition of e-bikes and multi-wheel definition of bicycles (HF493).
All three of these bills aimed to improve Iowa bicycle education and safety; we appreciate Senator Rozenboom’s recognition of this and working tirelessly throughout the session. Senator Rozenboom’s hard work helped ensure House File 380 and House File 493 passed this session.
There is still work to be done to pass the hands-free driving bill next legislative session. In 2017, 3,166 people died in a car accident resulting from distracted driving; this makes up about nine percent of all crash deaths. We look forward to continuing to work with Senator Rozenboom to make sure this bill gets to the Governor’s desk next session.
