Even in the quietest year of Iowa’s political quadrennium, it’s probably unavoidable that RAGBRAI riders are going to end up rubbing handlebars with candidates looking for votes.

Iowa Congressman Bruce Braley – who’s looking for a promotion to the U.S. Senate next year – said Wednesday that he plans to ride the Oskaloosa-to-Fairfield leg of the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa on Friday.

“I am looking forward to riding on RAGBRAI from Oskaloosa to Fairfield and talking to Iowans as I travel along the way and getting a chance to get feedback from them on some of the issues that we are considering right here and right now,” the Waterloo Democrat told reporters.

On Tuesday, Republican Gov. Terry Branstad – also likely to be on the ballot in 2014, seeking an unprecedented sixth term in office – rode about 28 miles from Perry to Van Meter.
