The Ragbrai medical team did not see heat-related issues Monday, but rather saw an increase in riders with abrasions, broken bones and head injuries, said Ragbrai Medical Director Bob Libby.

The medical team treated about double the patients Monday as the team did Sunday, Libby said.

On Sunday, the team treated about six patients. By 3 p.m. Monday, about 12 patients had been treated, Libby said.

“Most had abrasions. There were some head injuries. There were a few broken bones,” Libby said.

The first part of the day was relatively quiet, Libby said. He explained how the second half was much busier.

The injuries ranged from minor to moderate, Libby said.

“I wouldn’t call any of them major,” Libby said. “But the day is still young.”
