There are a handful of people who have left their mark on the Iowa bicycling culture, but few were as influential as Jim Green.  Greenie, as he was known, was the long-time director of RAGBRAI.  He took over at a time where the ride was at risk and basically saved the ride by implementing safety programs like RIDE RIGHT and founding The Dream Team.  Greenie was responsible for modernizing the ride adding a website, jersey, online registration, and more.

Jim Green was also a founding member of the Iowa Bicycle Coalition and was on the initial board of directors.  Greenie was heavily involved in recruiting board members, staying on top of issues, and influencing the direction of the organization.  Shortly before his passing in 2019 at his 80th birthday celebration, Jim pulled aside executive director Mark Wyatt and wanted a briefing on the work going forward in the legislature in the middle of the party.

To honor the life of Greenie, the Iowa Bicycle Coalition has created the Jim Green Leadership Circle.  This honor is for a special group of donors who contribute to the organization at a leadership level of $1,000 or more.  Of course, Jim was one of the first donors to pledge leadership level donations to the fledgling organization at the first organizational meeting.

Why Give?

Supporters of Iowa bicycling choose to make leadership gifts for many reasons—to express their gratitude for the role Iowa bicycling has played in their lives, strengthen and advance the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, have a positive impact on Iowa, or leave a legacy. We invite you to support the Iowa Bicycle Coalition.
