Authorities in Des Moines were so worried about a steep downhill on the route just past the Iowa State Fairgrounds they stationed two ambulances at the bottom.
But as the last groups of riders sped down the hill paramedics said they had seen no accidents thus far – though plenty of bikes were breaking the posted speed limit.
Four paramedics and two police officers said they had seen bikers being good about staying to the right or left depending on their speed and calling out to pass.
A sign at the top of the hill alerted riders to slow and use their brakes, but with it coming after a steep incline and leading into another hill riders seemed grateful for the break and the momentum.
Two people on rollerblades skated down.
A unicyclist opted to walk.
