There’s something special about riding a bike in Iowa.
At the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, we’re working to make sure more people can experience cycling safely, confidently, and in communities across our state.
Our vision is simple: Make Iowa the best place to ride a bike. This year, we’ve been putting that vision into action.
The Iowa Bicycle Coalition is making an impact:
✔️Defended existing bicycle rights at the State Capitol. Defeated HSB 637, legislation that could have restricted where Iowans can ride on public roadways.
✔️Leading Iowa’s response to emerging e-mobility issues. Partnered to develop a unified statewide model ordinance to address emerging safety concerns in Iowa communities due to the use of illegal e-devices.
✔️Helped more Iowa kids walk, bike and roll safely. Expanded Safe Routes to School participation, led more than a dozen bike rodeos, provided 250 helmets, and conducted 10 walk audits to identify & improve pedestrian and bike routes as well as bike bus development.
✔️Used cycling to strengthen Iowa Communities. We welcomed 2000+ cyclists, who rode 231 miles of trails across five IBC rides driving tourism and economic impact to 25 Iowa communities.
And we’re not slowing down.

▪️Take our e-mobility work to the State Capitol. Pursue statewide legislation that creates clear, consistent rules for emerging e-devices while protecting bicycles and legal e-bikes.
▪️Keep fighting for safer roads and trails. Advocate for policies that protect people who bike and preserve access across Iowa.
▪️Help more kids walk, bike and roll safely. Expand Safe Routes to School education and resources to more schools and communities.
▪️Strengthen Iowa communities through bicycling. Grow opportunities that connect bicycling, trails, tourism and local economic development.
