Bicycle Safety
The
Iowa Bicycle Coalition is concerned about bicycle crashes, injuries and
fatalities. We have initiated a comprehensive campaign for safer
cyclists, more aware motorists, and better communities for walking and
bicycling. Bicycle Safety Classes
give cyclists tips and techniques to avoid traffic conflicts and travel
confidently. Classes are available for groups of any experience
level or ability. Take a look at our Bicycle Safety Education program.
Bicycle Laws are derived from the Iowa
Code. Take a look at excerpts from the
Iowa Code that pertain to the operation of bicycles.
Motorist Awareness
educates motorists that bicyclists have the same rights and
responsibilities as a vehicle. The education includes drivers
education presentations, drivers manual chapter on bicycle safety, and
questions on the drivers examination. Browse the latest work in Motorist Awareness.
The Share the Road License Plate
program is a rolling reminder for motorists to "Share the Road" with
bicyclists. You can pledge your support by purchasing a plate
from your local county license plate bureau. Find out more about
the Share the Road program.
Safe Routes To School
is a new program dedicated to encouraging kids to walk or bicycle to
school safely. Training is available for communities who wish to
see more walking and bicycling for school aged kids. Learn more
about Safe Routes To School.
