Enforcement
To provide a safe walking route to school there needs to be enforcement of school policies and local and state laws. Educate the parents, students, teachers, and neighbors about safe driving, walking, and biking in and around the school zone, but don't forget to enforce the rules. By educating everyone will be on the same page as to what is the walking and biking policy for students and how drivers should behave in the area around the school. Involve the law enforcement in your local Safe Routes to School efforts to help decrease speeding, and other unlawful acts during school pick-up and drop-off times. Have clear signage to parents about where they can and cannot park and enforce it.
